The Auld Kirk Manse

One of the most interesting and picturesque churches in the Almonte area was next built at Leckie’s Corners. This was the Church of Scotland, known as the Auld Kirk, built in 1835. When it was built,
many people walked to it from all parts of the township for miles They also had access to its extensive
library of about 800 books.
The first minister to serve at the Auld Kirk was the Rev John Fairbairn who arrived in 1834. In 1835 he moved into the newly erected and very elegant manse across the road from the church. The manse is now a private residence.
