Carnival Diablo is returning August 16th-19th!

Emerged from the great carnival and sideshows of Europe,Carnival Diablo formed over 25 years ago. Scott McClelland, grandson of the legendary Prof. N.P. Lewchuk, follows in the grand tradition in the starring role as Ring Master Nikolai Diablo who has a burning hunger for the freakish and the bizarre. Nikolai butters his bread with the desires and dreams of his audience, performing miracles and feats beyond the natural realm. In a flash, he changes from the grinning barker who draws you into the show, to the FREAK who makes you sorry for your stares.

Jumanji- Welcome to the Jungle (2017/PG-13/1 Hour and 59 Minutes) !

An evening of free entertainment is approaching! On Thursday Aug. 16th, Mississippi Mills is hosting an outdoor movie night at Wylie Street Park.

Childrens Crafts and Family activities will begin from 7-8pm! Movie will start at dusk: approx 8:42pm.

Four high school kids discover an old video game console and are drawn into the game’s jungle setting, literally becoming the adult avatars they chose. What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji - you must survive it. To beat the game and return to the real world, they’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, discover what Alan Parrish left 20 years ago, and change the way they think about themselves - or they’ll be stuck in the game forever.

Mississippi Mills is excited to present August Movies in the Park again for 2018! Each Thursday, all month long, a pre-released or new family movie will be projected in a local park. Movies will be shown at a new location each week. Free of charge!

2018 Pakenham Fair – August 18, 2018

The Municipality of Mississippi Mills is proud to host the Pakenham Fair Saturday August 18. This beloved country fair has been running for over 100 years. Set in beautiful, downtown Pakenham – we invite you for a day of good old fashioned country fun. The tradition continues with horse, beef, dairy, horticultural and craft shows, a local market as well as some terrific children’s activities.

At only $5 for adults and free admission for kids it’s a fun-filled and affordable day for the entire family. Free activities include bouncy castles, a puppet show, games, a dog contest, chili contest and more!

An afternoon and evening of music in support of The Canadian Golden Retriever Adoption Service and Ottawa Dog Rescue. ALL PROCEEDS to go to these worthy causes. Enjoy the music of Headliner Kathleen Edwards and supported by Midnight Vesta, Braden Foulkes as well as a variety of other local musicians. Live music all afternoon and evening and you will discover some new gems in these musicians.

Kathleen’s songs have topped the Billboard charts and she has appeared The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Kathleen has earned multiple Juno nominations and was short-listed for Polaris Music Prize. Edwards has collaborated with Bryan Adams and shared stages with Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones. Kathleen is excited to introduce and perform a number of new songs for you!

Midnight Vesta is a Canadiana band based out of Toronto, ON. Since the release of their debut EP, ‘The Sleight of Hand’, which garnered national airplay on college radio, the band have been working the 401 and expanding an audience with their live performance. Their 2017 release, ‘Seconds’, sees them progress from a banjo driven folk band to a guitar laden quartet smothered in harmony.

Braden Foulkes has just released his first EP - Beauty of Life and he and his band are excited to perform these new songs as well as some old favourites and covers.

Plus more locally based musicians playing all afternoon…..

Silent auction items and 50/50 draws will also be drawing your attention so be prepared to bid on some amazing things. If you have an item or items you wish to donate, please email [email protected].

Tickets are $35 per person and must be purchased in advance. There will be a selection of BBQ items as well as a variety of side dishes for purchase. Send e-transfer to [email protected]. Your ticket will be your e-transfer confirmation for the number of tickets purchased. Tickets are limited so get them before we are sold out! (kids under 12 are free)

You are welcome to bring paddle boards, canoes and kayaks to explore the river or just park a chair and enjoy the ongoing music throughout the afternoon and evening! This is an outdoor event on my property at 1943 Blakeney Road, Pakenham, ON K0A 2X0 (although this is an event to benefit dogs, please leave your dogs at home).

Peter Rabbit (2018/PG/1 Hour and 35 Minutes)!

On Thursday Aug. 23rd, Mississippi Mills is hosting an outdoor movie night at Fred Millar Park in Pakenham! Come on out for free and enjoyable entertainment!

Pre-activities will begin from 7-8pm! The movie will start at dusk: approx. 8:29pm.

Peter Rabbit and his three sisters — Flopsy, Mopsy and Cotton-Tail — enjoy spending their days in Mr. McGregor’s vegetable garden. When one of McGregor’s relatives suddenly moves in, he’s less than thrilled to discover a family of rabbits in his new home. A battle of wills soon breaks out as the new owner hatches scheme after scheme to get rid of Peter — a resourceful rabbit who proves to be a worthy and wily opponent.

This event will give children and their families an opportunity to use all their senses to explore and experience nature. There will be a variety of “stations” around the 200-acre Nature Reserve that will be both interpretive and interactive to instill a sense of wonder in the natural world that surrounds us. High Lonesome is located at 867 Carbine Rd. in Pakenham. Take County Road 29 to Pakenham Village, turn on Waba Road and continue west for 2.9 km. Turn left on Barr Side Road. After for 1.6 km., take the first left at Carbine Road and drive 3 km to 867 Carbine Road.

The Emoji Movie (PG/2017/ 1 Hour and 26 Minutes)

What a perfect way to end off a great summer with a free and inviting outdoor movie! Join us at Appleton Bay Park!

Games and crafts for children will begin 1.5 hours before the movie! There will also be refreshments available and the proceeds will go towards the Appleton Community Association! Movie will begin at dusk: approx. 8:16pm.

Hidden inside a smartphone, the bustling city of Textopolis is home to all emojis. Each emoji has only one facial expression, except for Gene, an exuberant emoji with multiple expressions. Determined to become “normal” like the other emojis, Gene enlists the help of his best friend Hi-5 and a notorious code breaker called Jailbreak. During their travels through the other apps, the three emojis discover a great danger that could threaten their phone’s very existence.

The Expo is held at the Almonte Community Center at 182 Bridge Street, which offers plenty of parking and full accessibility.
Make a day of your visit! Complimentary tea,coffee, water and snacks available, and you can purchase lunch on site.
Last year the NL Seniors Expo attracted a crowd of 650+ people who visited the booths of 78 exhibitors.

Paddington 2 (PG/ 1 Hour and 31 Minutes)

The last outdoor movie night is held on September 13th at the Orchard View Retirement Home! You will not want to miss out!

Paddington, now happily settled with the Brown family and a popular member of the local community, picks up a series of odd jobs to buy the perfect present for his Aunt Lucy’s 100th birthday, only for the gift to be stolen.
